ABOUT ME AND THIS SITE……
My name is Denise Capelli and I had an amazing opportunity in 2015 to work for the first National Park established in Ukraine while serving in the U.S. Peace Corps. Over my two year period working at the Carpathian National Park, I became acutely aware of how special, important, amazing and valuable national parks are in America. So imagine my surprised when I returned from Ukraine to America in 2018 to discover, 534 active oil and gas wells are situated across 12 units of the National Park System. Many National Monuments had lands opened, or are at threat to oil and gas drilling companies, such as Bears Ears National Monument in Utah and the Great Sand Dunes National Park in my own backyard, in Colorado.
I felt passionate about creating a site that brings awareness of what’s happening to our national parks and monuments. Oil and gas is threatening wildlife, tribal lands and the environment. It’s important to inform the public of how our administrations are allowing the threat of oil and gas companies to diminish “Americas Best Idea” that Theodore Roosevelt and John Muir had secured for the people. Land that was purposely designated for the us to enjoy for generations to come is at risk.
